dokaLab began as the answer to a question. Why do I not have any physical photographs after the year 2010? Physical media has faded away as the digital age took over. We aim to remedy this by combining digital media and analog techniques in order to simplify the photo development process for the everyday person.
At dokaLab, we’re offering you an easy-to-use entry-level black & white photo developing kit that prints images directly from your phone, into a physical photograph. Whether you’re a beginner interested in analog photography, or someone who has done this before, dokaLab offers you everything you need to print your photos at home. Each kit includes all of the essential tools for developing your photos. Because of the kit’s compact nature, it allows you to set up your own darkroom almost anywhere (as long as it’s dark enough).
The reason we created dokaLab is simply to bring the fun of the darkroom to a wider audience. Typically darkroom setups cost 100s-1000s of euros, something worth it for someone pursuing photography, but not for the average person just looking to learn a new craft. This is also why we offer a price of €36, in order to keep the experience accessible and affordable. In a world of images that come and go, we think it’s important for memories to be able to come alive and stay physical instead of simply fading away.
Mitmachaktion: At Maker Faire Hannover we will be providing explanations of the process of darkroom photography and demonstrating how dokaLab works. Visitors will be able to develop their own photos using analog techniques, free of charge.
