The Soft Soldering Jig

Watch the evolution of this silicone-based jig make soldering tiny components easier

This project has been many years in the making. Initially, the Soft Soldering Jig won a prize at Hackaday’s circuit sculpture contest. Designed to make soldering circuit sculptures easier, with their tiny SMD components and brass rods that quickly get hot. Additionally the jigs turned out to work well for traditional soldering. It’s easy to place wires and components in the flexible silicone. It’s heat resistant, so you can solder on any flat surface. It’s soft, so it plays nice with other stuff in your backpack. I want more people to use these, so I will spend the summer discovering what can be accomplished with the jigs, while I try to make it an open hardware project.

I am Inne, a maker from the Netherlands. My projects are really varied, but I really enjoy the ones where I use silicone, electronics, and/or 3D printing. The city of Groningen, where I live, has a Makerspace called the Maakplek. It really is a great place to get inspired and share your work and equipment.

Hope to see you at my table!

Angebot zum Mitmachen: Experience for yourself how the Soft Soldering Jigs work. There will be bunch of varying electrical components at my table as well as a bunch of jigs. It will be a fun puzzle experience to see what can fit and in what orientation. All the while I will be closely watching, making copious notes about how people use the jigs and how to improve them.
